another day, another week

hello everyone!!
thanks for your notes and thoughts.
things are going really great. we are getting used to sweating, walking, eating with chopsticks and most of all--having a great time in and out of class with our students!!
week two is coming to a quick close.

this past week was full of lessons and activities. My students are between 12-14 and have a slightly limited vocabulary so it is great fun thinking of ways to get them talking. Every day we have a visitor, one of the teachers, who comes to class. this week i got to be Tonya Harding to warn everyone that cheaters never prosper... we also are busy praciticing conversations, learning about many countries and so on.

3 evenings per week we have culture nights and 3 afternoons we have activites. this week we celebrated Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day and a Wedding. We married off two of the teachers and had a big celebration. it was very funny and the students enjoyed it, especially the dancing!!

This afternoon we made crafts in our rooms and played some games. My kids like 'Uno' a lot and are very quick to learn. we played yesterday too. I have to remind them to speak in English or else i copy their Vietnemese and they think it is hilarious! they are happy to teach me words too. the boys have tons of energy and the girls are very sweet. they keep my on my toes. Hopefully one day we will even have class outside together.

Tomorrow we have another morning activity to make up for one night that it downpoured so we had to cancel....after that my students are taking me to a Vietnemese restaurant called, "the House of Jelly." This will be interesting! they want to show me many things.

My team is also very creative: some make music and act, one does ballet, others are very good at teaching and helping out. we all have our unique part on the team. we do the craziest things and i wonder what some of the students tell their families! For instance, to start our weekly olympic games the girls are performed some sychronized swimming on stage. (need i say more?)

As you can well imagine, admist all the fun and teaching, things are very busy and time is flying.
this sunday we will go to "international fellowship" for the second time. It is refreshing and a great part of the week. Last week we went to Vietnam's only KFC, that just opened in June, for the lunch. Every day brings many new surprises in this hot and beautiful, people-filled country.

i hope you are all well.
have a great weekend!

Hello Ginelle! It sounds like you are having an awesome time. I am jealous, but can not wait to live with you and hear all about it. You are in my thoughts and I think of you daily and the work you are doing. I love you and take care! A few more weeks and you will be my roomie again!

Ginelle, so I'm just reading your blog about your time in Hanoi, now. You said that you at at the only KFC in Vietnam. Things are changing! There are now TWO KFCs in Da Nang City, alone! I keep hearing from people that Da Nang is changing and growing very fast--I'm guessing the other cities are growing, too!
